13 Million Views in 10 Days

“Superman” flew to 13 million views in its first 10 days on HBO Max, marking the platform’s biggest 10-day audience for a movie debut since “Barbie” began streaming in 2023.

Helmed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as the titular hero, the DC Studios film hit HBO Max on Sept. 19. According to Warner Bros. Discovery, other titles involving the Superman character also saw spikes in viewership immediately before and after the movie began streaming. During the week of Sept. 15-21, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” saw a 670% increase in streaming compared to the week before. “Superman: The Movie” jumped by 155%, “Superman Returns” jumped by 120% and “Man of Steel” jumped 40% during the same window.

“Superman” was released in theaters in July. It was a box office success, grossing more than $600 million on its $225 million budget, and also performed well among critics. The movie achieved an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman writing a largely positive review: “Watching ‘Superman,’ we register the layered quality of the conflicts, and we’re drawn right inside them,” he said. “Gunn constructs an intricate game of a superhero saga that’s arresting and touching, and occasionally exhausting, in equal measure.”

Along with Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, “Superman” stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with other cast members including Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell. Gunn wrote and directed the film, and produced alongside side his co-head of DC Studios, Peter Safran. Executive producers include Nikolas Korda, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars Winther.
